What does the status "unknown" mean in lookup results?

This means that we can't know for sure whether the user is using this service on their device or not.
In most cases, we use this status when checking for FaceTime activation on a user's device. Usually, we try to use our own databases to verify the use of FaceTime. If we can't confirm the exact information about this service on the user's device, then you will receive an unknown status.

However, if you know the user has iMessage (or FaceTime) only it will be enough to confirm that as an iPhone user.
