What is the difference between dedicated and shared sender names?
Dedicated sender
A "dedicated sender name" refers to a setup where a specific phone number and server are fully allocated exclusively to you, operating solely in your interests. This use case allows you to utilize the number for a wide range of purposes. It's particularly convenient in that, from the users' perspective, it serves as a static, consistent phone number used for all communications.
Shared sender
With the Shared sender name option, you are getting a number from a shared pool of sender numbers. For each of your contacts, the assigned number may be dynamic. Also, due to these numbers shared, other customers may also use these numbers for their users. Our service manages the allocation process and tracks which users are related to which organization.
To keep these numbers in a good reputation, you can use them only for use cases where users message you first, and you generate an immediate response, like question<>answer. This use case is most commonly suitable for:
- AI Assistants
- Chatbots
Once you receive an inbound message from a user, you have a one-hour window to respond. This response window resets every time you receive an inbound message from a contact.
Shared sender names function exclusively with 1:1 conversations and support all communication channels: iMessage, SMS, RCS, and WhatsApp.
To initiate a conversation via a shared sender name, users must follow a unique opt-in link. Upon doing so, we automatically determine which specific shared sender the user should be routed to. As soon as a user begins a conversation with your sender, we establish a connection between that conversation, your organization, and the specific sender. After that, you can send outbound messages using standard methods without specifying which sender to use. The service will automatically identify the established connection and send the message to your contact.
